EU will continue to supply Ukraine with weapons even in case of ceasefire
Diplomats from several European countries have stated that even in the case of a temporary ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv, the EU will continue supplying Ukraine with weapons
This was reported by DW, citing statements from diplomats of several EU countries shortly before the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting.
According to several diplomatic representatives, the EU and its member states should not stop supplying weapons to Kyiv, even if this becomes one of Moscow’s conditions. They emphasized that Ukraine should be armed during a potential ceasefire.
"The European Union aims to ensure that Ukraine is in the strongest possible position at the peace negotiations and can also reject a ‘bad’ deal— as Trump would call it— and choose the most favorable moment for talks," one diplomat noted.
Another added that while the fighting between Russia and Ukraine continues, if a pause occurs, Ukraine must be turned into a "steel porcupine."
"The idea is that, while in a strong position, Ukraine should enhance its defense capabilities and be able to continue deterrence in case hostilities resume," one of the diplomats stated.
