He made this statement during a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte in Washington, as reported by Sky News.
According to Trump, Putin’s statement was promising, but not complete. He also reaffirmed his willingness to speak with the Kremlin leader regarding the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine.
"Hopefully Russia will do the right thing," the U.S. president said, reiterating his desire to see Moscow agree to a ceasefire.
At the same time, Trump emphasized that his special representative in the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, is engaged in serious discussions with the Russians. Witkoff is expected to meet with Putin soon.
- On March 11 in Jeddah, a meeting between the Ukrainian and American delegations took place. As a result, Kyiv agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, while the U.S. committed to resuming intelligence sharing and security assistance.
- Putin’s aide Yuri Ushakov stated that the 30-day ceasefire agreement serves as a temporary respite for Ukrainian forces.
- Meanwhile, the Kremlin leader declared that Russia agrees to the ceasefire proposal, but emphasized that "it must lead to a lasting peace."
