During the call, President Zelenskyy accepted President Trump’s invitation to visit Washington this Monday, August 18.

Zelenskyy announced this on social media, describing the phone call with the U.S. president as lengthy and substantive.

The leaders first spoke one-on-one, and then with European leaders joining. In total, the conversation lasted more than an hour and a half, about an hour of it directly with Trump.

“Ukraine once again confirms its readiness to work as productively as possible for the sake of peace. President Trump informed me about his meeting with the Russian leader and the main points of the conversation. It is important that America’s strength influences the development of the situation,” Zelenskyy said.

He stressed that he supports Trump’s proposal for a trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the U.S., and Russia. According to him, key issues can only be discussed at the level of leaders, and a trilateral format is suitable for this.

“All details on ending the killings and ending the war I intend to discuss with President Trump in Washington on Monday. I am grateful for the invitation,” Zelenskyy added.

The Ukrainian president underlined the importance of involving Europeans at every stage to ensure reliable security guarantees alongside the U.S.

“We discussed positive signals from the American side regarding participation in guaranteeing Ukraine’s security. We continue to coordinate our positions with all partners. Thanks to everyone who is helping!” Zelenskyy concluded.

White House aide Dan Scavino confirmed the call, adding that the U.S. president would also speak “with others,” likely referring to European leaders and NATO representatives.

Later, a European Commission spokesperson confirmed to Suspilne that the phone call between the two leaders also included European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Finnish President Alexander Stubb, Polish President Karol Nawrocki, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as well as U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff.

Trump–Putin summit in Alaska: what is known

On the night of August 16, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin held a summit in Anchorage, Alaska, in a “3-on-3” format that lasted nearly three hours — their longest discussion yet.

According to the U.S. leader, the meeting was “productive” and covered many issues, but “not on everything did we fully agree,” so “there is no deal yet.”

Trump stressed that he would soon hold calls with NATO representatives, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and others.

He also said the Alaska summit nearly produced an agreement, and that a meeting between Zelenskyy and Putin with his participation is now being planned.

“Now it’s really up to President Zelensky to get it done,” Trump said in a Fox News interview following his sitdown with Putin in Alaska, CNN reports. “They’re going to set up a meeting now between President Zelensky and President Putin and myself, I guess.”
