US imposes new sanctions on arms dealers assisting Russia’s war in Ukraine
The sanctions list includes a number of individuals and legal entities associated with arms trade in favour of Russia
This was reported by the press service of the US Treasury Department.
The sanctions were imposed on arms dealers from Russia and Cyprus Igor Zimenkov and his son Jonatan. They were involved in projects related to Russia's defence capabilities. They used shell companies to pay for projects related to the Russian defence industry, including supplying a Russian company with high-technology devices after the Kremlin launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Actions were taken against companies in Bulgaria, Cyprus, Israel, Latvia, and Singapore.
In total, the full blocking sanctions were imposed against 10 individuals and 12 legal entities.
"Russia’s desperate attempts to utilize proxies to circumvent US sanctions demonstrate that sanctions have made it much harder and costlier for Russia’s military-industrial complex to re-supply Putin’s war machine," said Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo.
Earlier, the US Department of Commerce included seven organisations from Iran in its "blacklist" for assisting the Russian Armed Forces and its military-industrial complex.
