"I always tell the truth as it is. This is not a quick process, because we need to completely reboot the UN Security Council in order to exclude Russia from it. But it will happen. The main thing is to be persistent and do what we are doing. And we will use this month of Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council to the fullest extent possible to bring this goal closer," the Foreign Minister emphasized.
The issue of Russia's expulsion has been relevant for years, but it was Ukraine that became the first country to officially put the issue of the illegitimacy of Russia's presence in the UN Security Council on the international agenda in December last year, the diplomat added.
Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council began on April 1, 2023, and will last one month.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that Russia's presidency of the UN Security Council is a cruel joke. The White House said that Russia has no place in the UN Security Council, but that there is currently no legal way to deprive the aggressor of permanent membership.
And the Russian delegation complained that the United States had not issued visas to them and had not authorized a special plane for Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
