UN Security Council fails to fulfill basic functions, it is time for reform - Guterres

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has said that the UN Security Council and the Bretton Woods financial system are not fulfilling their main functions, so they need to be reformed

Reuters reported that at a press conference in Hiroshima, Guterres noted that these structures must meet the realities of the modern world. According to him, these institutions currently reflect the relations that were relevant as of 1945, so they need to be updated.

“The global financial architecture became outdated, dysfunctional and unfair. In the face of the economic shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it has failed to fulfill its core function as a global safety net,” Guterres said.
