UN Security Council fails to fulfill basic functions, it is time for reform - Guterres

Reuters reported that at a press conference in Hiroshima, Guterres noted that these structures must meet the realities of the modern world. According to him, these institutions currently reflect the relations that were relevant as of 1945, so they need to be updated.

“The global financial architecture became outdated, dysfunctional and unfair. In the face of the economic shocks from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russian invasion of Ukraine, it has failed to fulfill its core function as a global safety net,” Guterres said. 

• Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba believes that it is necessary to reboot the UN Security Council in order to expel Russia, although this is a slow process.
