Ukrainian Armed Forces explain why Russian forces storm Novoyehorivka in Kupyansk area
Russian forces are trying to break through Ukrainian defenses in the Lyman-Kupyansk direction, especially near Novoyehorivka, Luhansk region, as there are key areas of higher ground near the village
Ilya Yevlash, the head of the press service of the Eastern military grouping, said this during the telethon.
"The enemy has focused its attention in the direction of Novoyehorivka. Russia wants to break through a kind of corridor in our defense in this direction, as the dominant heights are concentrated near Novoyehorivka," explained the spokesman.
According to the military, Russian enemy will try to break through to get to the Oskil River. So far, the enemy has not achieved its goal, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are repelling the enemy's offensive.
"Yesterday our defenders managed to neutralize 126 Russian militants in the Lyman-Kupyansk sector,targeted one field ammunition depot, one vehicle, seven drones, six of them of Lancet type," added Yevlash.
He said that five combat incidents took place in the Lyman-Kupyansk sector over the last day. Russian attacks were unsuccessful.
- On August 9, a veteran of the Russian-Ukrainian war, NGU reserve major Oleksiy Hetman noted that the enemy had concentrated about 1,000 tanks in the Lyman-Kupyansk direction and was trying to break through the Ukrainian defense.
- Ilya Yevlash, the head of the press service of the Eastern Military Group, also told Espreso TV that Russia had deployed more than 110,000 militants in the Lyman-Kupyansk direction and concentrated its forces in the direction of Novoyehorivka.
- On August 26, the head of the Luhansk Regional Military Administration, Artem Lysohor, said that the Russian army had been attacking Ukrainian positions near Novoyehorivka in Luhansk region for three days, but had no success. They also became more active in the area of Bilohorivka.
