Ukrainian rowers secure gold, silver medals at Paralympics
On the final day of the Paris Paralympic Games, September 8, Ukrainian athletes secured two medals in rowing
As reported by Suspilne Sport, Ukrainian rower Maryna Mazhula earned silver in kayaking and canoeing. She finished second in the 200-meter kayak single race for the KL1 class. Mazhula competed against seven other athletes, including Tokyo 2020 champion Edina Müller from Germany. She narrowly missed gold, finishing just one second behind Chilean athlete Katherinne Wollermann.
Mazhula's silver medal is Ukraine's 80th medal at the 2024 Paralympics in Paris.
In addition, athlete Vladyslav Yepifanov won gold in the VL3 outrigger competition. He completed the 200-meter race in 47.49 seconds, setting a new Paralympic record for this distance.
Jack Eyers from Great Britain took silver, while Peter Cowan from New Zealand earned bronze.
The Paris Paralympics marked the debut of 25-year-old Yepifanov, who entered the Games with an impressive record, having won the VL3 outrigger events at the World Championships in 2023 and 2024.
So far, Ukraine has won 81 medals at the 2024 Paralympics: 22 gold, 27 silver, and 32 bronze.
