Sanctions halt critical Russian artillery barrel factory
Due to Western sanctions, the Novotroitsk Chromium Compounds Plant in Russia’s Orenburg region is shutting down. The factory has been left without raw materials previously supplied from abroad
This was reported by the Center for Countering Disinformation.
"The Novotroitsk Chromium Compounds Plant in Russia’s Orenburg region is ceasing operations. The plant's management openly admits that Western sanctions are to blame. The company can no longer operate as it has lost access to essential raw materials from foreign suppliers," the Center stated.
They recalled that in January of this year, the Novotroitsk plant was added to the U.S. sanctions list. The plant is one of Russia’s largest suppliers of chromium and chromium compounds, which are critically important for the production of artillery barrels. Its closure will be a significant blow to Russia’s defense industry.
"This is a clear example of how sanctions can impact Russia’s strategic industries. Notably, Russian propaganda is also shifting its rhetoric on sanctions. No one is talking about ‘ineffective’ or ‘beneficial’ sanctions anymore — ignoring reality has become impossible," the Center emphasized.
- Hungary has once again refused to support the extension of European Union sanctions against Russia, putting their renewal at risk as the March 15 deadline approaches.
