The comments came from China’s Foreign Ministry, Reuters reports.

A spokesperson called the sanctions imposed by the EU and the UK on Chinese companies "unreasonable."

The ministry emphasized that many countries — including EU member states and the United States — still maintain trade relations with Russia, despite sanctions rhetoric. The spokesperson also warned that Beijing will take necessary steps to protect its legitimate rights and interests.

  • Polish foreign minister believes China could force Russia to stop the war by threatening trade embargoes, though he calls it unlikely for now.
