China could put Putin in his place, says Polish foreign minister
Polish foreign minister believes China could force Russia to stop the war by threatening trade embargoes, though he calls it unlikely for now
He shared this in an interview with Tagesspiegel.
"The country that could end the war and put Putin in his place is China," Sikorski said.
According to him, Russia is currently an economic vassal of China, and if Beijing threatened Moscow with a trade embargo, the latter would be forced to comply.
"However, at the moment, this is unlikely," added the Polish minister.
Sikorski also commented on the negotiations between the Ukrainian and Russian delegations in Istanbul on May 16. He noted that Turkey "is playing a very smart game," supplying Kyiv with various weapons systems while simultaneously hosting millions of Russian tourists.
"We all did not want to spend so much on defense – Putin is forcing us to do it. Putin is serious about his intention to conquer all of Ukraine. He is still convinced he can win," said the Polish foreign minister.
- Following the Ukraine-Russia talks in Istanbul, Sikorski stated on May 16 that the EU and NATO will not allow Russia’s imperial ambitions.
