First Kalibr missile with cluster warhead launched by Russia at Ukraine's Kharkiv region
On August 26, the Russian army used a Kalibr missile with a cluster warhead in its attack on Ukraine. The remnants of this missile were found in the Kharkiv region
This information was reported by Volodymyr Tymoshko, the head of the Main Department of the National Police in the Kharkiv region, according to Ukrinform.
"During yesterday's massive strike, we identified the use of a Kalibr sea-based missile equipped with a cluster warhead. It was used to target a civilian industrial facility. While Iskander cluster missiles have been used before, this is the first time we have recorded the use of a Kalibr missile with such a warhead," he said.
"In 2023 and 2022, Russian long-range strikes were typically carried out using S-300s and Iskanders, along with Korean missiles equipped with high-explosive warheads. Now, however, cluster missiles are being used," Tymoshko added.
He noted that while the number of airstrikes in the Kharkiv region has decreased, the situation remains challenging.
"The decrease is relative. For example, yesterday Russia used 12 aerial guided bombs, compared to none the day before. A few weeks ago, the daily usage of aerial guided bombs often exceeded 30. With the start of the Kursk operation, the frequency of these strikes has reduced, and there have been days without any at all,” Tymoshko concluded.
