Ukrainian aviation joins fire-fighting operation after Russian attack on Kyiv
Two Ka-32 helicopters carried out 40 water drops to extinguish fires caused by Russian attacks, saving three industrial facilities in Kyiv.
This was reported by Ukraine's Main Intelligence Directorate (HUR).
The commander of the HUR aviation unit, known by the call sign Maestro, reported to HUR Chief Lieutenant General Kyrylo Budanov that the aviation unit was ready to assist in firefighting efforts. Budanov approved the operation.
"After the barbaric strikes on Kyiv, we noticed large fires in civilian infrastructure. I reported to General-Lieutenant Budanov about our readiness to assist the civilian population. I received the order - immediately for takeoff. He told me: 'We must protect Kyiv and its people,'" said the commander of the aviation unit.
Two multipurpose Ka-32 helicopters were involved in the operation. They carried out 40 water drops totaling up to 120 tons under challenging conditions of smoke and high temperatures. The helicopters coordinated with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine, and their synchronized actions allowed them to extinguish the large-scale fire within 3 hours. As a result, they were able to save three industrial enterprises.
"We are not only fighting the enemy at the front, but we are also protecting the lives of Ukrainians. Our duty is to do everything possible where we are, with all available means," commented Budanov.
