Russia's statements on capture of Bohdanivka are false — Ukraine's National Guard officer

Colonel Serhiy Sidorin, commander of the 4th Battalion Tactical Group of the National Guard of Ukraine, noted that the contact line in the Bakhmut sector is dynamic, with some positions changing hands throughout the day. Ukrainian defence forces continue to hold half of Bohdanivka.

He shared the statement on Espreso TV.

"The Bakhmut direction remains difficult, the enemy does not give up attempts to conduct assault operations. Five combat engagements with the enemy took place yesterday. The hottest spots today are Bohdanivka, Ivanivske and Klishchiivka. Despite the statements of the Russian media about the capture of Bohdanivka, this is not true. The Ukrainian defence forces continue to hold half of this settlement. The combat line is dynamic, some positions change hands within a day," said the NGU colonel.

According to him, Russia is trying to use assault actions with equipment to quickly approach the positions of Ukrainian defenders and land their troops there. However, such attempts are detected by aerial reconnaissance in a timely manner, and fire is inflicted, forcing Russia to withdraw.

"Regarding the settlement of Klishchiivka. The Ukrainian defence forces conducted counter-assault operations, capturing several positions that the Russian enemy had occupied earlier. The line of contact is 5-7 km away from Chasiv Yar, so the enemy has the opportunity to fire at the town from large-calibre artillery systems, and in favourable weather conditions, use aviation, reconnaissance and strike UAVs," noted Colonel Sidorin.

  • On 27 January, British intelligence assessed the situation at the front: the Russian army had been continuing its offensive in recent weeks, but these gains are strategically insignificant. Instead, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are focusing on active defence.
  • On 31 January, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported that 88 combat engagements took place on the frontline over the day. Ukrainian forces repelled Russian attacks in 6 directions and neutralised 1,090 Russian soldiers.
  • On 1 February, the General Staff's evening report stated that as of 31 January, the Defence Forces repelled 6 Russian attacks in the Bakhmut sector near Bohdanivka and Klishchiyivka in Donetsk region
