On May 8, the unilateral ceasefire declared by Russia was supposed to be in effect at the front. Kyiv hosts security forum: Unite Again to Defeat the Global Aggressor
In the war with Russia, a new imperial state that only recognizes the right of force, Europe must not repeat the historical mistakes of the past. Not repeating them means providing Ukraine with money and weapons, in much greater volumes than in the previous three years of combat, ensuring cooperation between Ukraine’s and European defense industries, and creating a new security concept. This was discussed yesterday in Kyiv at the Unite Again to Defeat the Global Aggressor annual security forum. NATO representatives, European politicians, and, most importantly, European army generals spoke about this. These generals have a more realistic and pragmatic view of the threats posed by Russia and acknowledge the need for joint cooperation with Ukraine. They recognize that Ukraine and its Armed Forces are the first and primary line of defense, preventing further Russian advancement into Europe, burning up Russia’s potential, and giving NATO and European countries time to become stronger and better prepared for war.
Russia continues combat operations despite declared ceasefire from May 8 to May 11
Yesterday, the unilateral ceasefire declared by Russia was supposed to be in effect at the front. In reality, the situation varied across different areas of the front. In some sectors, it was indeed quieter, while in others, there were no changes at all. In the morning, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called it a "parade ceasefire" and said it turned out to be a farce. By the evening, the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces reported that Russia continued assault operations along the entire front line, with 116 combat clashes recorded as of 4:00 p.m.
There are sections of the front showing positive dynamics, but in certain sectors, the situation is critical. On a positive note, yesterday, Ukraine's Khartiia brigade reported that, in cooperation with other Defense Forces units, including the 92nd Separate Mechanized Brigade, they regained control over a strategically important area near the village of Lyptsi in the Kharkiv region. Over 200 hectares of forest land were liberated, and the battle for this forestry lasted 5.5 months. Russia lost more than 1,500 soldiers in this area, over 200 units of weaponry, and a significant amount of equipment.
Positive dynamics are also observed around Kupiansk. Russia redeployed part of its forces across the Oskil River and established several bridgeheads, creating a threat of advancing toward Kupiansk from the north. Yesterday, the Ukrainian military reported that the situation there has been stabilized, and Ukrainian units are even carrying out counterattacks. In particular, in the direction of the village of Zapadne, where Russian troops previously tried to control this area.
Russian troops continue attempts to cross strategic Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad–Kostiantynivka highway
The situation along the Pokrovsk–Myrnohrad–Kostiantynivka highway remains critical. This area lies at the intersection of the Pokrovsk and Toretsk sectors. Russian forces have been actively engaged in combat here, and we must now confirm that this road has been under artillery and drone fire. However, it is crucial for the logistics of a significant number of Ukrainian troops, including those positioned in the lowlands. Specifically, in Kostiantynivka, where Ukrainian forces provide defense for a large part of Ukrainian territory, as well as the troops holding the outskirts of Toretsk. Currently, Russian forces have advanced to within close proximity of the highway in three areas, and in one area, they have crossed it. This includes the settlements of Malynivka, Nova Poltavka, and Novoolenivka. Yesterday, DeepState reported that Russian troops advanced in Novoolenivka. Although this happened earlier, they are now trying to cross this logistical route and have the potential to develop offensive actions either toward Kostiantynivka or Myrnohrad and Pokrovsk. Therefore, it is crucial for the General Staff of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to take measures to block and stabilize this direction.
Germany announces new aid package for Ukraine
On May 7, it was reported that Germany announced another significant military aid package for Ukraine. The package includes missiles for air defense systems, new air defense systems, ammunition for Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft units, three Zuzana self-propelled howitzers funded by Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands, as well as a large number of UAVs. All of this is essential for the Ukrainian Armed Forces on the front line. Germany remains a stable partner in supplying weapons to Ukraine and continues to be a leader among European countries in this regard. It’s worth reminding that the three Patriot systems and a significant number of IRIS-Ts were provided by Germany. Additionally, Ukraine has received a substantial number of UAVs, including reconnaissance and strike drones of various types. Ukrainian defense enterprises are also actively collaborating with German companies in the development and implementation of new technologies for ground robotic complexes and drones.
Ukrainian manufacturers actively collaborate with German defense companies
Ukrainian Armed Forces serviceman, founder of the drone manufacturing company First Contact and chairman of the New Energy of Ukraine Alliance, Valeriy Borovyk, stated that the German company Diehl BGT Defence GmbH & Ko KG is actively working on new weapon systems that will be supplied to Ukraine. According to him, testing of a new powerful ground robotic complex for medical evacuation is set to begin this month. This system is expected to be supplied to the Ukrainian Defense Forces later this year. Borovyk also emphasized that the technology of this complex will be shared with other manufacturers. Additionally, Diehl BGT Defence GmbH & Ko KG has excellent developments that need to be tested on the front line, including drone jamming systems.
Combat dynamics require quick and effective decisions in weapon production
Valeriy Borovyk explained that at the beginning of the invasion, Ukraine accepted any military aid, often outdated and faulty equipment. Over time, the situation improved as the military learned what worked and what didn’t. War is highly dynamic, and weapons contracted yesterday may already be ineffective today. Borovyk noted that not all weapons produced globally are suited for large-scale wars — different weapons serve different purposes. He added that Western countries continue to fund the production of weapons that, unfortunately, Ukraine no longer needs. To fix this, companies like New Energy of Ukraine and people on the front lines are stepping in. These individuals can collaborate directly with engineers in labs, creating and refining the weapons that are truly effective for today’s battlefield.
Ukrainian weapons exports will boost the defense industry's efficiency and potential
Valeriy Borovyk believes that allowing the export of Ukrainian weapons is a positive decision. He noted that Ukrainian manufacturers often sit without contracts. Therefore, if the state is currently unable to purchase weapons, there must be permission to export them in order to preserve teams and equipment. Ukrainian producers must not lose their potential, and most importantly, their specialists. He added that the New Energy of Ukraine alliance is now ready to export electronic warfare systems that have proven highly effective on the battlefield. These systems were significantly improved through direct feedback from soldiers using them in combat. The company is also prepared to export certain air defense systems currently being refined in cooperation with partners in Poland, Slovakia, and Germany. These are tactical systems used for frontline coverage. Additionally, the company is considering licensed production of drones.
