"Parade ceasefire" proves to be a farce, no letup in Russian attacks, Ukraine’s FM says
The Russian army continues to attack Ukrainian Defense Forces positions along the entire front line, despite declaring a so-called “truce” from May 8 to 10
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported the information.
He said he had spoken with the Ukrainian military command, which briefed him on the situation at the front. According to him, Putin’s "parade ceasefire" turned out to be a farce.
Despite the Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s statements, Russian troops are still attacking all along the front. From midnight to noon, Russia committed 734 ceasefire violations and launched 63 assault operations — 23 of which were still ongoing at the time.
In total, the Russian troops carried out 586 attacks on Ukrainian Armed Forces positions, including 464 using heavy weapons; 176 drone strikes; and 10 airstrikes with 16 guided bombs.
"We are responding appropriately to all attacks and sharing all relevant information about Russia's ceasefire violations with the United States, the EU and European partners, all other states, and international organizations. We will not let Putin fool anyone when he does not even keep his own word., the statement said.
He stressed that Ukraine is still ready for at least a 30-day full ceasefire and for "confidence-building measures, which will enable peace negotiations and the real path to a fair and sustainable peace."
Head of the Center for Countering Disinformation Andriy Kovalenko added that Russian troops are trying to pass off the lack of Shahed attacks as a "ceasefire."
"Russia is lying — the 'ceasefire' they announced isn’t working. They’re still attacking at the front. They want people to think it’s a truce just because there are no Shaheds in the sky. But a real truce means no one’s shooting, no assault operations, and artillery falling silent," he wrote.
- On Thursday, May 8, Russia announced the start of a so-called truce to mark the 80th anniversary of victory in World War II.
- On the same day, Russian forces struck the Sumy and Kharkiv regions during the so-called truce. There were deaths and injuries as a result.
