Estonian intelligence believes Russia isn't ready for peace talks with Ukraine, continuing its aggressive military actions. Ants Kiviselg, head of the Defense Forces Intelligence Center, said this on Friday, August 29, as cited by ERR.

Kiviselg believes the current battlefield situation shows that Russia is not seriously considering peace talks with Ukraine; on the contrary, new peaks in attacks are being observed.

He stated that territorially, Russian forces had advanced nearly 100 square kilometers over the past seven days, most of it in the Donetsk region.

The head of Estonia’s Defense Forces Intelligence Center noted that Russian forces have "seized about 16% of Donetsk region this year, occupying slightly less than 77% of the entire region to date."

He said this further confirms that the Donetsk region remains one of the main targets of Russian armed forces.

He also commented on Russia’s long-range drone airstrikes across Ukrainian regions.

He said that over the past week, Russian forces continued daily long-range drone strikes on various targets in Sumy, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Poltava, Cherkasy, and Chernihiv regions, as well as in the Pokrovska and Dobropilska communities, launching 50 to 100 drones per day.

He also analyzed the Russian strike on Ukraine’s capital during the night of August 28. According to him, Russia launched 598 long-range drones that night.

Kiviselg noted that this was only 130 fewer than on July 9, when the highest number of drones in a single day during the entire war - 728 - was launched.

According to him, several factories in Kyiv were "damaged or destroyed," including Artem, UkrSpecSystems, Samsung, the Kyiv Radio Plant, and a facility under construction by the Turkish company Baykar.

  • On the night of August 28, Russian forces carried out a massive strike on Ukraine using 629 aerial attack systems. Missile and strike drone impacts were recorded at 13 locations, with debris falling at 26 more.
  • At least 23 people, including four children, are reported kiiled in the capital. Kyiv declared August 29 a day of mourning.
  • The Russian attack was condemned by several European countries.
  • U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Keith Kellogg was the first senior American official to comment on one of the most massive Russian strikes on Kyiv, emphasizing that these attacks threaten the peace the U.S. president seeks.
