How many Oreshnik missiles can Russia produce per year? Expert explains
Defense Express development director Valerii Riabykh says that Russia is trying to expand its medium-range missile production capacity
He said this on the Espreso TV channel.
"The production of 25 Oreshnik missiles per year is probably the total capacity of the Russian defense industry at this stage to produce missiles of this class. It should be noted that these missiles did not appear out of thin air. However, there is still a lot of work to be done in order to reach mass production of any kind. This can be made easier for the enemy, as the missile can use existing blocks from other missiles," explained Riabykh.
According to the military expert, at the same time, the production of intercontinental missiles may be limited if the enemy produces medium-range missiles in large quantities, which are unlikely to be mass-produced.
"At present, six Russian enterprises engaged in the production of various types of missiles, including intercontinental ballistic missiles, are working to expand their capacities. This may indicate Russia's intention to increase these capabilities," Riabykh said.
The Defense Express information and consulting company development director also recalled that it was intermediate-range missiles and the arms race that finally brought down the Soviet Union.
"This is also very likely to be true for modern Russia with its exorbitant ambitions amid technological and economic lagging behind its main adversaries," Riabykh emphasized.
