Putting car tires to protect Russian aircraft makes no sense – military expert
Military expert, reserve officer of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Andriy Kramarov says that Russia has no strategic airfields with underground and above-ground hangars to protect aircraft
He said this on Espreso TV.
"Car tires do not make it impossible to take satellite images. The Russians believe that the tires on airplanes will somehow help them. This is dynamic protection, like on tanks. It's called common countermeasures. If a drone carries a mixture of pyrotechnic incendiary agents, the tires catch fire and the fuselage of the aircraft is covered in flames. There is no logic in this. Because the only effective protection for aircraft at military airfields is special underground and above-ground hangars where aircraft must be driven," Kramarov explained.
According to the expert, most of the airfields in Russia are relocation and transportation airfields.
"The strategic airfields where enemy strikes were expected in the Soviet Union were mostly on the territory of Ukraine. Because the Russians believed that they did not need it. That's why we have such infrastructure at our airfields, while they don't," Kramarov emphasized.
