Yuriy Ihnat, spokesman of Ukrainian Air Force Command, said this live on air of Espreso TV channel on December 27.

"Actually, it is hardly possible to hit an airfield with "bavovna" and cause great losses. We have seen violations of security measures at other airfields, in Crimea in particular. The airfield is rather a large infrastructure. It is not so easy to disable the airfield, even if they “smoke there” Thus, Engels airfield remains a working airfield," he said.

At the same time, Ihnat noted that the threat of mass shelling of Ukraine has not passed, so he called on citizens not to ignore air warning signals.

"Russian Federation has a lot of airfields, a lot of aviation equipment that can perform tasks - it's still necessary to prepare for some unpleasant surprises. Russia has a lot of means, planes that can continue to terrorize our country," the spokesman of Air Force Command emphasized.

Ihnat said that after explosions on the night of December 26, Russians redeployed part of aviation from Engels airfield in the Saratov region of the Russian Federation.

"After yesterday's well-known events, we can see that planes are scattered there, specifically strategic aviation. We are talking about Engels airfield. Of course, there are still a certain number of planes, but many of them have already been relocated to different airfields that can receive, maintain, and service them," he said.

According to the spokesman of Ukrainian Air Force Command, on the evening of December 26, a decrease in the activity of Russian aviation was recorded.

"Perhaps Russian occupying forces could not recover from "bavovna" that was happening," Ignat said.
