Podolyak comments on statements made by Chinese ambassador to France

The recent statement by the Chinese ambassador to France, Lu Shaye, casting doubt on the sovereignty of former member states of the USSR, drew criticism from Ukrainian political adviser Podolyak. Podolyak remarked that all post-Soviet countries possess a clear sovereign status recognized in international law, with the exception of Russia, which deceitfully claimed a seat in the UN Security Council.

He also found it peculiar to hear an irrational version of the "history of Crimea" from a representative of a country that prides itself on its thousand-year history. Podolyak urged China to refrain from promoting the propaganda of “Russian outsiders” if they aspire to be a significant political player.

• On April 22, it was announced that the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs would summon the Chinese ambassador over another Chinese diplomat's remarks about the sovereignty of post-Soviet countries. 

• On April 23, France expressed its complete support for the sovereignty of former Soviet republics following the Chinese ambassador's statement, demonstrating solidarity on this matter.
