Estonia to summon Chinese ambassador.Espreso
Estonia's Foreign Affairs Ministry will summon the Chinese ambassador over a diplomat's televised statements on the sovereignty of post-Soviet countries
Delfi reported that the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will summon the Chinese ambassador to get clarification on the Chinese high-ranking diplomat's comments about the sovereignty of Estonia and other countries of the former Soviet Union.
Chinese Ambassador to France Lu Shaye said in an interview with the LCI TV channel that the countries that were formerly part of the Soviet Union do not have an effective status in international law because there is no international agreement that would fix their status as a sovereign country.
According to Estonian Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna, such statements by the Chinese diplomat are regrettable and incomprehensible. “It is sad that the representative of the People's Republic of China holds such views. This position is incomprehensible,” he said.
