Partners’ position of supporting Ukraine with weapons after war ends is not entirely honest – Journalist Portnikov
Journalist Vitaly Portnikov believes that a long-term conflict is primarily advantageous for Putin
He stated this on Espreso.
"The partners have stated that they will continue assisting us with weapons even after the war ends. However, this is quite concerning. I would prefer to hear that they will take us into NATO, eliminating the need for such weapon assistance. By joining NATO, we would be able to allocate a military budget comparable to that of member countries and enjoy the security of being under the US nuclear umbrella, ensuring that our land will not face war again," emphasized Portnikov.
The journalist believes that the partners' idea of supporting Ukraine for decades is not entirely honest.
"The partners' proposition is as follows: 'You cannot currently pursue a Ukrainian Euro-Atlantic perspective, but we will provide assistance to strengthen you, so you can defend yourself in case of a Russian attack. This will deter Russia from targeting you.' This approach reminds me of the situation in the Middle East. Even if the war ends, the measures to destabilize the situation, the risk of terrorism, and the sabotage actions of the Russian Federation may persist. This long-term conflict is primarily advantageous for Putin," stressed Portnikov.
