Zelenskyy meets with UK, Italy, India, France and Germany leaders in Hiroshima: what was discussed

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has met with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Japan and discussed the ‘fighter coalition’, he has also met with Prime Ministers Giorgia Meloni of Italy and Narendra Modi of India, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

President Zelenskyy shared the information on Telegram. 

"In Japan, I met with Prime Minister of the UK Rishi Sunak. I thanked for the UK's leadership in the international fighter jet coalition. We discussed the further implementation of the agreements reached during the negotiations held in the UK on May 14," Zelenskyy wrote.

The President of Ukraine also met with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Japan.

"We discussed Italy's defense and political support for Ukraine and the first results of the visit to Rome on May 13. It is necessary to improve air defense capabilities, including the training of our pilots," Zelenskyy said.

The President of Ukraine has met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Japan. This was reported by the press service of the President's Office.

"As part of his working visit to Japan to participate in the Group of Seven summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi," the statement said.

The President thanked India for supporting the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, in particular at the platforms of international organizations.

The Ukrainian leader also thanked India for providing humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

"The war brought a lot of crises and suffering. Deported children, mined territories, destroyed cities, ruined lives," Zelenskyy said.

The President spoke about Ukraine's needs for humanitarian demining and mobile hospitals and briefed Narendra Modi in detail on the Ukrainian formula for peace and invited India to join the initiative.

For his part, the Indian Prime Minister thanked for the assistance provided to Indian students during the evacuation from Ukraine due to the full-scale Russian invasion.

"During his working visit to Japan to participate in the Group of Seven summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron. The head of state thanked France for important decisions on military and humanitarian support for Ukraine," the statement said.

Zelenskyy noted the importance of France's support for the ‘coalition of fighter jets’ and the country's participation in a training mission for Ukrainian pilots.

The President of Ukraine emphasized the priority of implementing the Ukrainian peace formula and involving as many countries as possible in this process.

He informed the French President of his productive visit to the Arab League summit.

Zelenskyy thanked Macron for starting to implement the agreements reached during his visit to France on May 13 and for continuing defense cooperation.

The meeting was reported by the press service of the President’s Office.

During his working visit to Japan to participate in the Group of Seven summit, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Federal Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany Olaf Scholz.

"The leaders discussed the first results of Zelenskyy’s visit to Germany, which took place on May 13. Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked for the powerful defense assistance that Ukraine receives from Germany," the statement reads.

It is noted that the President emphasized the importance of implementing the points of the Ukrainian peace formula. The Ukrainian  and German leaders coordinated their positions ahead of the Group of Seven summit.

President Zelenskнy announced the information on Twitter. 

The plane with the President of Ukraine landed in Hiroshima, where the G7 summit is taking place. 

"Japan. G7. Important meetings with partners and friends of Ukraine. Security and enhanced cooperation for our victory. Peace will become closer today," Zelenskyy wrote. 

According to Kyodo, Zelenskyy will participate as a guest in the G7 leaders' session on peace and stability. He also plans to hold talks with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who is presiding over the summit.

According to sources, the Ukrainian president is also considering a visit to the Hiroshima Museum, which documents the destruction caused by the atomic bomb in 1945 and will lay a wreath at the memorial to the victims of the nuclear explosion. 

Kishida invited Zelenskyy to the G7 summit during his visit to Ukraine on March 21.

Zelenskyy last visited Japan in October 2019, when he attended the enthronement ceremony of Emperor Naruhito in Tokyo and held talks with then-Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.
