Next weeks will be crucial, we need to stay united – Michel on supporting Ukraine
President of the European Council Charles Michel says a new chapter in the history of the European continent is beginning
He said this at a press conference broadcast by Espreso TV.
“The 27 EU member states have realized that a new chapter in the history of the European continent is now beginning. Cohesion and unity are our strengths. This helped us to quickly provide support to the Ukrainian people to secure Ukraine's future. In order to defend the right to life and European values. The coming weeks will be decisive, and we need to stay united,” Michel emphasized.
According to him, in the near future, Europe needs to work in three areas.
“Firstly, this is the military direction. Ukraine should receive the maximum amount of weapons, air defense systems, tanks and other military equipment. Secondly, we need to promote the Peace Formula. The Charter and international law must be respected, without compromise. Thirdly, Ukraine has made a choice – it is the choice of the Ukrainian people. It is a choice in favor of freedom, democracy and the EU. Ukraine has applied to become an EU candidate country. The European Commission will continue to monitor Ukraine's progress on this path,” Michel added.
