Sumy region could be key target in Russian offensive
The Sumy region could become one of the priorities in Russia's offensive as the enemy is directing the maximum number of reconnaissance and sabotage groups there
This was stated by the spokesperson for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army South, Serhiy Bratchuk, in an interview with Ukrinform.
"Among the regions where the enemy could most actively engage its forces is, for example, the Sumy region. Today, they are involving sabotage and reconnaissance units, and there has been a significant increase in the activity of such units. Accordingly, the Defense Forces are responding to these risks and challenges," he said.
According to the spokesperson, the Russian forces are still focused on directions such as Pokrovsk and Kupyansk. Additionally, military personnel are noticing an escalation on the Lyman front, in the area of Toretsk and Chasiv Yar, where the Russian troops are maneuvering and trying to create a manpower advantage to continue their offensive actions.
He added that Russia is trying to find weak spots in the defense.
"In my opinion, the intensification of Russia's offensive actions shows that the enemy is trying to find weak spots in our defense. They will then concentrate their efforts there, creating an advantage in manpower, mechanized components, and, of course, using aviation," Bratchuk said.
- In March, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is preparing for a spring offensive in the Sumy and Kharkiv regions.
