This was stated by the commander of the 72nd separate mechanized brigade named after the Black Zaporozhians, Oleksandr Okhrimenko, in an interview with Glavkom.

According to him, the Ukrainian defenders were confronted by the 36th separate motorized rifle brigade of the 29th army of the Russian armed forces, the 39th separate motorized rifle brigade, the 57th brigade, the 91st separate rifle regiment and other units.

“That is, there were superior enemy forces in tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, artillery systems, anti-tank weapons, and personnel. If we assess the overall combat potential, the ratio was almost 1:9 in favor of the enemy,” the commander said.

  • On October 1, DeepState claimed that Russian troops had managed to capture Vuhledar. However, the 72nd Brigade denied the full occupation of the city.
  • On October 2, Ukraine's Khortytsia military unit officially announced the withdrawal of the military from Vuhledar. “The High Command has granted permission to carry out a maneuver to withdraw units from Vuhledar in order to preserve personnel and military equipment, and to take up a position for further actions,” they said.
  • On October 3, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the withdrawal of the Ukrainian military from Vuhledar the right thing to do, as it saved the lives of soldiers.
  • After the withdrawal from Vuhledar, Donetsk region, which was announced on October 2, the 72nd Black Zaporozhians Brigade continued to hold the line in the same area.
