Following Vuhledar withdrawal, Ukraine's 72nd brigade positioned in new defensive line without rotation
After the withdrawal from Vuhledar in the Donetsk region, which was reported on October 2, the 72nd Brigade continues to defend its position in the same direction
Two soldiers from the brigade shared this information with Suspilne.
One soldier mentioned that some battalions of the 72nd Brigade, which suffered significant losses during the battle for Vuhledar, will remain in the Donetsk region, about 10-15 kilometers from the front line.
"During this time, they will be replenished. The rest of the units will continue to defend this direction," he said.
Another soldier added that the brigade is still in the same direction because there is no one to take their place. The 72nd Brigade has not had a rotation since August 2022.
Suspilne contacted the brigade's press service for a comment and was told that “due to the tough situation in the area, media interactions are on hold.”
Ukraine’s General Staff also told journalists that they are not commenting on the situation in the Vuhledar direction to prevent Russia from learning about their plans.
Arsenii Prylipka, the 72nd Brigade's press officer, told hromadske that the military has moved back to a new defense line and is prepared to continue holding off the enemy.
- On October 2, it was reported that Ukraine's Defense Forces have officially withdrawn from Vuhledar, Donetsk region, to preserve personnel and military equipment and to take up a position for further operations.
