Maxar releases new satellite images of bombed Soledar and Bakhmut
Maxar Technologies has published satellite images of Soledar, Donetsk region, comparing how the town looked in August 2022 and now, in 2023
The company published the images on Twitter.
Due to constant Russian shelling, there is not a single surviving building in Soledar, most residential buildings and schools are completely destroyed. A series of images taken on August 1, 2022 and January 10, 2023 show how the town has changed over the past 5 months.
“Satellite imagery of the town of Soledar, Ukraine (lat: 48.663700, long: 38.091763), showing homes, schools and buildings that have been destroyed from the month’s long battle and artillery exchanges,” the company tweeted.
Maxar also showed bomb craters in fields and along the roads in and around Bakhmut. The image was taken on January 7, 2023.
Earlier, the company published satellite images of Bakhmut, comparing what the outskirts of the city looked like on August 1, 2022 and January 4, 2023.
- On January 10, Russian troops tried to attack Soledar from 3 directions, according to Defense Express CEO Serhiy Zgurets.
- On the same day, the spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Serhiy Cherevatyi said that Russian troops fired 86 times at Soledar from artillery during the day.
- The Institute for the Study of War said that Russian troops did not capture Soledar completely, despite several false statements that the town had fallen and that Bakhmut was under threat of imminent encirclement. And even the potential capture of Soledar will not mean that Bakhmut will be surrounded.
- In the morning report on January 11, the AFU General Staff reported that over the past day, the Ukrainian military repelled Russian attacks near the settlements of Hrianykivka, Kharkiv region, Stelmakhivka, Luhansk region, and 11 more in the Donetsk region. In the Bakhmut direction, Russian attacks were registered near 8 settlements of the Donetsk region.
- Also on January 11, Colonel Serhiy Cherevatyi, spokesman for the Eastern Group of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, denied Russian claims that Soledar is under Russian control.
- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that the battles of Ukrainian defenders for Bakhmut and Soledar, Donetsk region, show how important it is to strengthen military assistance to Ukraine.
