Spokesman of the Ukrainian Air Forces Yurii Ihnat says Russia focuses its main striking efforts on Kyiv

"On the night of January 2, the enemy again attacked Ukraine with Shahed-131 and Shahed-136 kamikaze drones. Thirty-nine enemy UAVs were destroyed by air defense forces. The capital remains the main target of enemy drones, the enemy aims there most frequently. But in the eastern and southern directions, UAVs were also destroyed by units of anti-aircraft missile troops, aviation units. Fighter jets were working in the sky," explained Ihnat.
According to him, there are also mobile firing groups that use their weapons at night.
"At night it is possible to detect Shahed drones only by radar and lighting means, special searchlights, which are used to detect UAVs. Mobile firing groups try to destroy UAVs using small arms and anti-aircraft weapons," added Ihnat.
- On the night of January 1 to 2, 2023, Russian troops launched a massive strike with Iranian-made Shahed-131/136 kamikaze drones on the territory of Ukraine. Ukrainian defenders destroyed all drones launched.
- On the night of January 2, 2023, explosions rang out in Kyiv city, as well as in Kyiv, Poltava, Mykolaiv, Cherkasy, Dnipro and Zaporizhzhia regions. Ukrainian air defense systems were destroying enemy air targets. Some energy infrastructure facilities were damaged.
