Russia attacks Ukraine's capital and 6 regions

Information about shooting down 22 air targets over Kyiv was confirmed by the Kyiv City Military Administration.

"Night air raid on Kyiv. While air alert was triggered, 22 air targets were shot down over the capital," the statement said.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko told more details about the attack. According to him, as a result of the night shelling of the capital, energy infrastructure facilities were damaged.

There are emergency power outages in the city. Accordingly, there are de-energized heat supply facilities. The capital's water supply is carried out as usual.

Prior to that, information about the downing of 20 air targets over Kyiv was confirmed by the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The debris also damaged balconies and windows in a high-rise building in Desnianskyi district. No fires have spread, however there is a victim. A 19-year-old young man received a cut wound on his foot, as he inadvertently stepped on broken glass. He was sent to the emergency room. This information is confirmed by Klitschko.

In turn, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration Oleksiy Kuleba noted that the Kyiv region has been repelling drone attacks, another act of terrorism by Russia, for the second night in a row.

As a result of the strikes, critical infrastructure and private houses were damaged in the region. No casualties have been reported yet. All services on the ground are working to eliminate the consequences of the massive attack.

At night, he wrote that Russia launched several waves of drones and aimed at critical infrastructure facilities.

Mykolayiv and Cherkasy regions

The Operational Command South's spokesperson Vladyslav Nazarov reported 8 downed Shahed drones.

"During the night drone attack, in the Mykolaiv region, 6 Shahed-136s were destroyed by the forces and means of air defense of the Southern Air Command. One more drone was destroyed by the National Guard. Also, another drone was destroyed by air defense forces near Uman," Nazarov informs.

Poltava region

Head of Poltava Regional Military Administration Dmytro Lunin also reported the air defense operation.

Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions

According to the head of Dnipropetrovs'k Regional Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko, the first night of the new year was tense. Russia attacked the region with missiles, “kamikaze” drones and heavy artillery. 

"Our sky defenders with the East Air Command did not give the enemy a chance. They destroyed all 4 enemy air targets. They destroyed a Kh-59MK2 missile and 3 “kamikaze” drones that were going to destroy our energy infrastructure," he wrote on Telegram.

The drones were shot down in the Dnipro and Kamianets-Podilskyi districts, the missile on the approach to Dnipro. Thus, in the Kamianets-Podilskyi district, drone debris fell on a private enterprise. There was a fire. Firefighters have already extinguished the fire. 

Prior to that, the East Air Command stated that over the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhya regions air defense shot down 9 Iranian drones and a missile.

"Aviation and anti-aircraft missile forces destroyed 6 Shahed attack UAVs and one Kh-59MK2 high-precision guided missile flying in the direction of Dnipro city over Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. Another 3 Shaheds were shot down by the air defense of the Land Forces in cooperation with the Air Command East,” the East OP reports.

Three more Iranian drones were shot down by the Air Defense of the Land Forces in cooperation with the Air Command East.
