Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant dam blast: death toll rises
As of the evening of Saturday, June 17, 16 people are reported dead as a result of the Kakhovka HPP dam explosion
This was reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine.
1,300 houses are still flooded. Specifically, 1,274 houses are in Kherson, and 26 houses are in Mykolaiv regions.
A total of 3,614 people, including 474 children and 80 individuals with disabilities have been evacuated.
16 people have lost their lives, with 14 fatalities in the Kherson region and 2 in the Mykolaiv region. There are 31 people still missing.
“The police have received over 4,800 reports of property damage from citizens. They have inspected 13,500 apartments and houses. Despite ongoing shelling from the enemy, the indomitable people of Kherson region continue their relief efforts. All services are operational despite the Russian terrorist attacks,” according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
It's important to note that this data only pertains to the territories controlled by Ukraine. The number of victims in Russia-occupied territories remains unknown.

The Ministry of Health suggests the possibility of a cholera outbreak as a result of the Russians' blowing up the Kakhovka hydroelectric dam and flooding a number of settlements.

On June 12, it was reported that 10 people lost their lives, and 20 were injured in the Kherson region due to the Russian destruction of the Kakhovka HPP. Another 35 people were reported missing.

According to the experts, there is evidence to suggest that the dam's destruction was caused by an explosion from the inside.

According to Operational Command South's press center head, the Russian forces blew up part of the structure and are using the blackmail card to put pressure on the Defense Forces and Ukraine as a whole, no longer having the strength to wait for the counteroffensive to come from.

Natalia Humeniuk also spoke about the possibility of blowing up the hydroelectric power plant from the inside. According to her, by blowing up the Kakhovka HPP, the invading forces are trying to stop the Ukrainian army's counteroffensive.
