Iran gives Russia 18 reusable Shahed drones — The Guardian
In November 2022, Iran smuggled at least 18 advanced long-range combat drones to Russia using boats and a state airline
This is reported by The Guardian.
The publication notes that 18 new drones were delivered to Russia after Russian officers and technicians visited Tehran in November 2022. They were shown technologies available in Iran.
10 representatives of Russia, who came to visit Iran, chose new drones. Among them were six Mohajer-6 drones, which are capable of carrying four air-to-ground missiles and have a 200 km range. There were also 12 Shahed-191 and Shahed-129 drones. The publication emphasizes that they are not kamikaze drones like those previously used by Russia.
New 18 drones are designed to drop bombs and return to base. According to The Guardian's sources, most of the new drones that Russia received were secretly taken by an Iranian vessel from a base on the Caspian Sea. Later, they were handed over to a Russian military boat at sea. Other drones were sent by the state airline of Iran.
In addition, Tehran sent technical specialists to Moscow to help manage the drones. Sources of the publication share that there were 54 Iranian experts involved, 3 per one drone.
The article says that the drones were manufactured at a military plant in Isfahan. On January 28, it was shelled by an Israeli drone.
