Austria announces that Putin will be arrested if he enters country’s soil
Karoline Edtstadler, Federal Minister for the EU and Constitution, said that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin will be arrested after entering the country
Karolina Edtstadler said this in an interview with Tagesspiegel.
The Minister of EU Affairs and the Constitution stated that Austria will uphold its responsibilities under international and criminal law. As a former criminal judge, she emphasized that if Russian President Vladimir Putin were to set foot on Austrian soil, the international arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC) would necessitate his arrest.
Edtstadler further clarified that while Austria maintains its military neutrality, it is not politically neutral. Austria stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and provides them with humanitarian and economic support but does not supply weapons. Additionally, Austria does not obstruct the EU's decision to offer support, despite the so-called Irish clause, and remains constructively abstinent.
