Brazil comments on possibility of Putin's arrest due to ICC’s warrant
Brazil has hinted that Russian President Vladimir Putin may be arrested in the country on the basis of a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira reported this.
When asked whether Putin could be arrested given that Brazil is a member of the International Criminal Court, the diplomat said: “Anyone who travels to a country that is a member of the ICC may have complications, I have no doubt about that.”
According to him, Brazil respects and adheres to the rules of the ICC. He also reminded that his country has condemned Russian aggression and supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
123 countries are States Parties to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court.
Brazil has long been characterized by close relations with Russia. These two countries, as well as India, China and South Africa, are members of the BRICS interstate union founded in 2006.
