Ukrainian intelligence comments on speculation that Transnistria will ask to join Russia
On February 25, Ukrainian Defense Intelligence (HUR) stated that reports of Transnistria planning to request union with Russia at the Congress of Deputies on February 28 are false.
The HUR press center reports.
According to intelligence, on February 28, 2024, the deputies of the unrecognized Transnistria do not plan to appeal to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at their congress to join the Russian Federation.

"The distribution of information about such intentions bears all the signs of a deliberate disinformation campaign aimed at destabilizing the situation both in Moldova and in Ukraine," the HUR emphasizes.

A "congress of deputies of all levels" is scheduled for February 28 in Tiraspol. The so-called Transnistrian politicians do not conceal that the congress will be about Russia. At the same time, Ukraine's Ambassador to Moldova Marko Shevchenko said that, according to his information, the issue of Transnistria's accession to Russia is not currently on the agenda.

The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) later stated that the grouping of Russian troops currently concentrated in unrecognized Transnistria does not pose a military threat to Ukraine.
