Poland raises military aircraft due to Russian missile strike on Ukraine, unidentified object spotted
On August 26, Poland deployed aircraft to its southeast due to the threat of Russian missile attacks on western Ukraine. An unknown object entered the country
The Polish Army's Operational Command reports.
“Since this morning, there has been intense activity by the Russian Federation's long-range aviation, with air strikes targeting locations, particularly in the western part of Ukraine,” the statement said.
The Operational Command warned of a possible increase in noise levels due to the start of flights by Polish and allied aircraft in the southeastern part of the country.
Poland noted that the last such activation of Russian aviation, during which strikes were carried out in Western Ukraine, occurred on July 8 of this year.
“All necessary procedures have been activated to ensure the safety of Polish airspace, and the Polish Operational Command is continuously monitoring the situation,” the Polish Army Operational Command added.
It was later reported that during the morning Russian attack, an unidentified object crossed into Polish airspace from Ukraine. It was likely a drone, according to RMF24.
According to preliminary information, the unmanned aerial vehicle crossed the border near the Ukrainian city of Chervonohrad at 06:43 a.m.
"We are probably dealing with an object that has entered the territory of Poland. The object was radar-confirmed by at least three radar stations," the military said.
The operational commander of the Polish army, Maciej Klisz, said that the object had entered the territory of Poland about 25 km away. It later disappeared from radar systems. It is likely that the drone is still in the country.
