Pentagon sends 500 interceptor missiles to Ukraine for NASAMS and Patriot systems - media
The U.S. Department of Defense will send more than 500 interceptor missiles for NASAMS and Patriot air defense systems to Ukraine
The Wall Street Journal reports this with reference to a White House official.
It was reported that in response to the increased attacks by Russian drones and missiles, the Pentagon is sending over 500 interceptors to Ukraine for the Patriot missile defense system and the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS). Missiles are expected to arrive in the coming weeks.
It is noted that these supplies should meet Ukraine's air defense needs by the end of this year.
According to the official, the planned increase in arms supplies from U.S. military stockpiles, particularly for air defense, “is a matter of great concern.” The United States is considering options such as buying weapons from other countries to transfer them to Ukraine, the source added.
- The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has authorized U.S. defense contractors to operate in Ukraine to maintain and repair weapons provided by the Pentagon.
