Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Croatia (2010-2017), Bosnia and Herzegovina (2011-2017) Oleksandr Levchenko analyzes the events ahead of the Global Peace Summit on June 15-16 in Burgenstock

He said this on Espreso TV.

"We know that Switzerland, as the host country of the Summit, is an influential, historically neutral country; it sent out invitations to 160 countries. As you can see, not everyone was invited - Russia was not invited, Belarus was not invited. The idea of the Summit is to ensure that the 10-point peace formula proposed by Kyiv is supported, if not on 10 points, then at least 3-4 points, by the common position of the countries of the world that want this war to end on the basis of the norms and principles of international law and through the United Nations system," the diplomat explained.

According to the former ambassador to Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, about 100-120 representatives of the invited countries are expected to arrive. They are to act as a united front in the negotiation process with Russia.

"It will be successful if there is some kind of joint document that all countries will confirm, so to speak, that is, some kind of framework position on ending this war. If that fails, we understand that Russia has already begun its destructive steps and is working directly with many countries that depend on it economically to torpedo the adoption of a joint decision. Perhaps there will be some kind of joint statement or declaration. If there are blurred positions, it is possible that there will be another such summit to clarify the position, and only then to go to the summit, of course, with the participation of Russia, because it is impossible to end the war without Russia," Levchenko concluded.

  • The Peace Summit will develop a common negotiating position for Ukraine, which will be passed on to Russia's top leadership, Ukrainian presidential spokesman Serhii Nykyforov said.
  • Swiss President Viola Amherd said that she had invited Pope Francis to the Global Peace Summit to be held on June 15 and 16 in Burgenstock.
