Could Israel send captured weapons to Ukraine? Strategic move against Russia
Israel may be taking a pragmatic step by transferring captured weapons to Ukraine, partly as revenge on Russia for its ties to Hamas and Hezbollah
Defense Express writes about this.
Israel has seized over 88,500 weapons and pieces of military equipment from Hezbollah and Hamas during operations in Lebanon and Syria. While Israel officially remains "neutral" in providing weapons to Ukraine, flight data suggests this stance might be changing.
American aircraft have been spotted flying between Israel’s Hatzerim Airbase and Rzeszów, Poland — a known hub for transporting arms to Ukraine. Additionally, since late last year, Israel has discussed transferring weapons captured from militant groups to Ukraine.
Experts think if this process has begun, it’s a pragmatic decision. Instead of spending money to dispose of these weapons, Israel would send them to Ukraine, indirectly hitting back at Russia, which supports Hezbollah and Iran, two major threats to Israel.
Weapons captured from Hezbollah include MLRS, anti-tank systems, mortars, and thousands of small arms. Videos from the Israeli Defense Forces show some of these items, often unused and in factory packaging.
Reports also suggest that Israel is considering transferring Russian-made Kornet anti-tank missiles and Iranian Almas weapons, which were seized during IDF operations. The captured arsenal includes lighter weaponry, which seems more likely to be sent to Ukraine than heavy equipment like tanks.
