Berlin tells China's special envoy that ending support for Ukraine is out of question
On March 9, China's Special Representative Li Hui visited Berlin to discuss the war in Ukraine with German Foreign Ministry State Secretary Thomas Bagger
This was announced by Foreign Ministry spokesman Sebastian Fischer at a briefing on March 11, Ukrinform reports.
According to him, the diplomats spoke about their efforts to achieve peace, in particular, they discussed the global peace summit to be organized by Switzerland.
Fischer noted that during the conversation, "the well-known differences in the positions of China and the EU regarding Russia's aggressive war against Ukraine became apparent.”
Berlin welcomes China's peaceful efforts to contribute to ending the war in Ukraine, but no new Chinese initiatives have been presented, the spokesman said.
The German side once again emphasized that Beijing's attitude on this "central issue" affects relations between Germany, Europe, and China, and that cooperation between China and Russia, particularly in the supply of dual-use goods and the circumvention of sanctions by Chinese companies, is also a cause for concern.
The German side emphasized that it was out of the question to stop supporting Ukraine, Fischer said.
- Earlier, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Li Hui's visits to Ukraine, Russia, and several European countries for talks on a "political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.”
- On March 4, Li Hui visited Brussels to meet with the heads of the European External Action Service. The EU urged China to limit the supply of advanced technologies to Russia.
- Warsaw also emphasized that supporting Ukraine is the duty of the international community.
