Bolstering Ukraine's air defense: how many air defense systems Ukraine can get
Serhiy Zgurets, Defense Express CEO and military expert, highlighted that Ukraine currently has four air defense systems
He shared this on Espreso TV.
"We know about the Patriot systems' effectiveness. Today, another Russian attack saw a hypersonic Kinzhal missile shot down. What was once a sensation is now almost routine. This shows the Patriots' performance and our military's training. Ukraine is focusing on increasing the number of its air defense systems. The president mentioned at least seven units. We currently have two German Patriot systems, one from the USA, and one from the Netherlands. We're expecting a third one from Germany soon, likely within the next month," explained Zgurets.
According to the military expert, Ukraine is nearing a total of seven Patriot batteries.
"President Biden has decided to supply the second Patriot system from Poland, which currently protects American forces there. This second Patriot from the USA might arrive within weeks. There's also a new initiative from the Netherlands to gather another Patriot division from different countries. So, we are approaching seven Patriot batteries. I hope for more air defense system to come," Zgurets noted.
- On Tuesday, June 11, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a new aid package to Ukraine, including the Patriot system, the IRIS-T installation, Gepard, and ammunition. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius added that Germany and its allies are providing 100 missiles for the Patriot batteries.
- US President Joe Biden has approved deploying another Patriot missile system to Ukraine.
