Germany to supply third Patriot battery, 100 missiles to Ukraine
On June 11, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced a new aid package for Ukraine, which includes the Patriot air defense system, IRIS-T, Gepard, and ammunition. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius added that Germany and its allies provide Ukraine with 100 missiles for the Patriot system
Scholz announced the information during his speech at the Ukraine Recovery Conference 2024 in Berlin.
"Relations between Germany and Ukraine have never been so close and trusting," Scholz said, highlighting that since Russia's full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, Germany has provided military aid worth 33 billion euros.
He emphasized that Ukraine's most urgent needs are ammunition, weapons, and particularly air defense.
"In the coming weeks and months, we will deliver the third Patriot system, the IRIS-T installation, Gepard, and ammunition to Ukraine," Scholz stated.
He also called on the international community to support Germany's initiative to bolster Ukrainian air defense.
At a press conference with President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius stated that Germany and its allies are providing Ukraine with 100 missiles for the Patriot system.
“Especially after I saw how critical Ukraine's air defense is for its survival, I am pleased to announce the delivery of a significant number of interceptors for Patriot - one hundred,” he said.
Pistorius highlighted that Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, and Denmark are collaborating on this initiative.
“32 of these missiles have already been delivered over the past two days, and the remaining 68 will be delivered in the coming weeks,” he emphasized.
