U.S. in talks with Russia on strategic access to Ukrainian ports, nuclear facilities
U.S. Special Representative for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, stated that during negotiations with Russian representatives, issues related to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant and access to ports are being discussed
He shared the information in an interview with CBS News.
According to him, the negotiations with Russia are not only about a ceasefire and a peace agreement. In particular, officials from both sides are discussing control over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear reactor, access to ports, and regions where Russian forces are concentrated.
"There are regions that we all know the Russians are focused on. There is a nuclear reactor that supplies quite a bit of electricity to- to the country of Ukraine. That's got to be dealt with. There's access to ports. There's the Black Sea potential agreement," Witkoff said.
At the same time, he shared that he sometimes compares the war in Ukraine to the conflict in Gaza. According to him, the situation there involves a limited and defined space, unlike the situation between Russia and Ukraine.
- Donald Trump said that on Tuesday, March 18, he plans to talk to Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine, as well as about territories and power plants.
