Ukraine’s accession to NATO will be major achievement — British Ambassador to Ukraine Harris
Right now it's crucial to support the Armed Forces of Ukraine for NATO integration. Ukraine must make a significant contribution to European security
Martin Harris, the British Ambassador to Ukraine, expressed this opinion on the Espreso TV channel.
"We believe that it is now crucial to provide greater support to the Armed Forces of Ukraine for NATO integration. Currently, we have established a new element in the architecture of European security, but this is temporary. We consider Ukraine's accession to NATO as the most important achievement. Not only because Ukraine will belong to NATO, as British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak stated, but because NATO will be stronger with Ukraine. This will be in the interests of European security overall," he stated.
Harris outlined the current position of allies ahead of the Washington Summit and what can be expected from the Euro-Atlantic perspective for Ukraine.
"From the US side, there has always been a position and policy regarding the distribution of responsibility for European security. Understandably, Americans expect a greater contribution from Europeans to the security of Europe. I believe the best approach is the accession of the most powerful army in Europe, including the Armed Forces of Ukraine, to NATO. After the victory, undoubtedly, there will still be a threat from Russia. We've said that we have an unbreakable alliance with Ukraine now. In the future, we will be allies within NATO. Ukraine must make a significant contribution to European security," he concluded.
- NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that according to the results of annual opinion polls among citizens of NATO member states, two-thirds of people are in favor of continuing to support Ukraine
