
Trump’s special envoy comes to Russia, likely to meet Putin
On March 13, the plane of Steve Witkoff, the special envoy of U.S. President Donald Trump, landed in Russia. An aide to Russian leader Putin, Yuri Ushakov, did not rule out that Witkoff would meet with Putin
This was reported by the Russian state propaganda agency TASS.
Yuri Ushakov stated that Witkoff arrived in Russia to discuss not only the "Ukrainian issue" but also bilateral relations between Russia and the United States.
Regarding the 30-day ceasefire proposal, Ushakov said that Putin would formulate Russia’s official position himself, adding that the proposal "gives nothing to Russia, it only allows Ukraine to regroup its forces."
Ushakov also noted that the ceasefire proposal agreed upon during the US-Ukraine talks "needs to be revised to account for Russia’s interests" and that Russia would "select specific negotiators for dialogue with the US regarding Ukraine."
Ushakov did not rule out a meeting between Witkoff and Putin. The Telegram channel Ateobreaking reported that the meeting would take place on the evening of March 13, following Putin’s conversation with Lukashenko.
Earlier, TASS, citing Flightradar, reported that Witkoff’s plane had landed in Moscow.
Reports that a Gulfstream G650ER jet departed from Qatar toward Russia emerged around 9 a.m. The business jet was carrying Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff.
At 11:34 a.m., it was reported that Witkoff's plane had landed at Vnukovo Airport in Russia.
U.S.-Ukraine talks in Saudi Arabia
On March 11, the Ukrainian and American delegations met in Jeddah, following which Kyiv agreed to a 30-day ceasefire with Russia, and the United States agreed to immediately resume intelligence sharing and security assistance.
The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said “the ball is now in Russia’s court” after Ukraine agreed to the proposed ceasefire. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the proposal for a 30-day ceasefire, stating that Russia is currently studying the statements made following the March 11 talks between the United States and Ukraine.
White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz said after talks with the Ukrainian delegation in Saudi Arabia that President Donald Trump has decided to cancel the pause in military aid to Ukraine immediately. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has confirmed that President Donald Trump has canceled the pause in intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
Trump expressed hope that Russia would agree to a one-month ceasefire in Ukraine.
The EU High Representative, Kaja Kallas, welcomed the joint statement by Ukraine and the United States following the negotiations and expressed readiness to participate fully in the steps to achieve peace.
On March 12, U.S. President Donald Trump stated that American representatives are already heading to Russia for a meeting regarding a ceasefire.
