
Trump abruptly departs G7 summit, cancels planned Zelenskyy meeting
U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday that he needed to return to Washington from the G7 summit in Canada "as soon as possible" to deal with the situation in the Middle East
CNN reported the information.
"I have to be back. Very important," he said, before addressing the host of the G7 summit, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney: "Great host. He did a fantastic job."
"But you probably see what I see. And I have to be back as soon as I can," he continued.
Trump's aides previously announced that he would leave on Monday evening, a day earlier than planned, to deal with urgent matters at home. "I have to be back early for obvious reasons. They understand. This is big stuff," Trump said.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is returning to Washington with President Donald Trump, a State Department spokesman said.
According to NBC News, citing an American official who wished to remain anonymous, Donald Trump instructed the National Security Council to be ready in the Situation Room when he returns from the G7 summit in Canada.
A bilateral meeting between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was planned on the sidelines of the G7 summit.
