Spain to allocate €1 billion in aid to Ukraine this year

This was announced by Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez during the "Support Ukraine" meeting marking the third anniversary of Russia's invasion. 

Sánchez confirmed that the package will include military assistance for Ukraine. He also highlighted Spain's commitment to working alongside Ukraine on its reconstruction efforts, creating new structures to support this process, and encouraging Spanish companies to engage in Ukrainian projects and programs.

He also announced that Ukraine and Spain will establish a Ukrainian hub in the Alicante province. Sánchez emphasized Spain's commitment to supporting Ukraine's full sovereignty and welcomed all efforts aimed at achieving peace, but stressed that it must be just, long-lasting, and comprehensive. 

He stated that for peace to be just, Ukraine needed to be at the negotiating table, for it to be lasting, Europe had to be involved in the process, and for it to be comprehensive, it could not merely be a ceasefire. He concluded by affirming that Spain would continue supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary, providing assistance, including military equipment and technology, with even greater determination than before.

• The Spanish army is actively studying the combat experience of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in battles against Russian invading forces, including training its units on storming Russian trenches.
