European nations poised to deploy up to 15,000 troops to Ukraine for security guarantees
European nations are prepared to deploy between 10,000 and 15,000 troops to Ukraine as part of security guarantees within the first six months following a ceasefire
Die Welt reported the information.
The finalized plans for Ukraine's security guarantees were developed by military experts from the armed forces of Great Britain and France, in collaboration with Brussels. This information comes from diplomatic sources familiar with the negotiations.
Die Welt's sources further indicate that both France and Great Britain are prepared to monitor the ceasefire, even without a mandate from the United Nations or the European Union. A formal invitation from Ukraine would be sufficient for their involvement.
Neighboring states to Ukraine are expected to provide air and sea monitoring of the ceasefire. Turkey is also slated to play a role in these monitoring efforts, specifically by overseeing the Black Sea region.
On December 29, the Italian Council of Ministers approved a decree extending aid to Ukraine. In particular, it allows for the continuation of military support.
